Lord Howe Island
Lord Howe Island was discovered by Captain Henry Lidgebird, Ball Master of the HMS Supply en route to Norfolk Island on the 17th February 1788. Ever since then it has been a popular stop over for Whalers, Sailors, Aviators and Holiday Makers. Sir Francis Chitcheaster made a stop over here on his solo round the world flight in the 1930's! This diverse little Island is so special it was placed on the World Heritage List in 1982, one of the first Islands in the World to have this honor.
Some of the rarest birds in the world call Lord Howe Island home, from the Lord Howe Island Woodhen once less than 30 birds it now flourishes to the Providence Petrels and Shearwaters.
Lord Howe Island offers an experience for everyone, from ecotourism to game fishing, mountain climbing and diving to the more relaxing golf, bowls, tennis, to a snorkeling trip on a glass bottom boat. For the surfers, great beach and reef breaks it's hard to miss out!
The Island has a number of excellent Cafes and Restaurants serving traditional and modern food at reasonable prices.
Lord Howe Island sits on the 34th Parallel and boasts a Sub Tropical not too hot not too cold Climate, temperature range 15-30°C year round.
The most southern coral reef in the world protects our beautiful lagoon with its hundreds of fish and coral species.
